I began this sketch by blocking out the shape of a cat. But it wasn’t going anywhere till I turned it on its side, and saw the shape of this goofy dog. Well, I happen to like goofy dogs so I went with it. There's a lesson here somewhere…
As you can imagine, I had to channel my “inner-grump” to make this piece work, which, to my surprise, was much easier than I thought. In this story, the main character refers to his drawings as the basis for all of his adventures, like who hasn’t done that?
This is an illustration for an upcoming theatrical performance of Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure. I even broke out my old Fender Stratocaster for reference, which made me very happy. I play mostly air guitar these days. But, you never know… I just may break out my old amplifier one of these mornings — Set your earplugs for stun!
